Birthday Party Games for Economic dads on a Budget You do not have to hire a magician or a pony for a birthday party of a child a success. The only real expense that you may have to bear is a birthday cake and ice cream. Otherwise, children just need some easy to create fun activities. You can go fly a kite or take a trip together to the local playground.
If you want to be more industrious, here are some easy to make the attractions that will keep a group of children (4-10) held for several hours:
Fishing Game
What it is: three-sided structure of plywood about 5 feet tall and 8 feet long, painted to look like before the water. Fishing rods made from bamboo about 3 feet long with a string attached and recipient clothes pin on the other side.
Materials needed: '2 4x8 sheets of plywood, 4 bamboo sticks (6 'long and cut to 3' of each section of pipe) to 4 'long, spring clothes pins to clip on the price of fish. VOLUNTEER to cut the plywood and assemble the parts, paint and forehead. Small price to be "fished" for.
How to play: Volunteers are sitting behind exposure. Kids come and cast a fishing line on the water. "Clip volunteers on prices, small toys, stickers or candy.
Walk the Plank Pirate Ship
What it is: a balance beam with a large cutout of a pirate ship graphic attached to an end. It sits on a blue tarp lined to resemble water. (The school may have beams can borrow)
Materials needed: a balance beam. A large panel, cut to about 5'x6 'and painted to resemble a pirate ship (perhaps with a shark). A painter blue tarp with the edges rounded to look like a puddle. Pirate costumes of some sort: a pirate hat, hand hooked eyepatch, and jacket. gold plastic.
How to play: Dress like a pirate and attempt to walk the plank without falling. The winners get a coin plastic vessel at the end.
Buried Treasure
What it is: extra large plastic treasure chests filled with birdseed to hide the money inside. Box lids are safe in a slightly open.
Materials needed: 2 or 3 large plastic boxes ($ 14.25 dollars each in Rhode Island Novelty) the size of about 20 "x14x14, although more would be better. Sacks of birdseed. Plastic parts or small wrapped candy to dig. Bandanas for blindfolded. Something to fix the door ajar.

Tattoos and face paint booths
What it is: Parent volunteers apply press on tattoos on children. Tattoos are soaked for a few seconds in hot water then applied against a sponge. Other parents do volunteer makeup with glitter.
Materials needed: plastic containers, kitchen sponges, hot water, tattoos, makeup, glitter superfine, guide book of face painting, paper towels, fine brushes, hand mirrors.
Fortune Telling Booth
What it is: Dresses volunteering as a gypsy fortuneteller.
Materials needed: a volunteer! Perhaps a kind of magic looking ball, a small tent, chair, table, tarot cards, curtains and scarves!
Blow Pop Lolli
What it is: traditional ring mix with Lolli POP as pegs.
Materials needed: A wooden board with holes drilled into (pegboard), and a means of angle. Table for setting it on. Rings and many lollipops. This could be a mobile game that is worn like a harness and was walking in the crowd?!?
