Old military board games ...........? My father spoke to a friend of his on some old military games made by a company called Avalon Hill.
Anyone know a place to find some of these sales so I can get some for him?
Avalon Hill is still publishing games, although they were aiming to reach a more mainstream audience, as they are now owned by Hasbro.
If you are looking for the most wargames, a good place to do research and even the negotiation game Geek. I'll add the link in the sources below, pointing directly to the ads of the former incarnation of the company. You can also find copies of eBay relatively easy, but they can be expensive. I recommend trading on the "geek" first. These two are your best choice for the more you talk wargame titles.
On the other hand, recent versions of Avalon Hill are a bit wider audience, but even better and a little more complex than what you usually find in a department store. In particular, they currently publish axis and play classic Allies, with several variants for various wars. Some current games Avalon Hill are sometimes available at Toys R Us, but you'd better check your local specialty shops Thurs Because Axis and Allies series is about the only thing still in print , TRU has been taking an overstock titles just-out-of-print and sell them for $ 20 per title. Your mileage may differ here and this is just the ordinary things of the past 3 or 4 years.
As a local shop can not be an option, I am including links to the official site of Avalon Hill's, and Funagain games, which I understand is a very famous shop for mail.
In addition, some classic games, such as the popular Advanced Squad Leader, is currently published by other companies, such as Multiman Publishing. Again, the links included. This is important because it is the first game most people think of when they think of the old Avalon Hill.
Finally, I am adding a link to the Wikipedia history of the company to give you a little background in Avalon Hill was so important in the recent history of games.
Go to www.avalonhill.com
These games can be difficult to find. But I know a store in Baton Rouge, Louisiana called Little Wars. Here is the phone number (225) 924-6304 It is a good store. You can call and get the titles of games. And to bring them to you. They have a few weeks. These games have gotten pretty expensive over the years and now may cost up to $ 80 if the box is not open.
Another good place for some, is for sale on eBay, but you might not get all the pieces. Sometimes you can find them at a garage sale. Good luck hunting.
For those old classics, you'll have to look on ebay and try to reach an agreement. Make sure the seller is trustworthy, and the description of "all the pieces included" or "no missing pieces." There are many small parts in some of these games if you do not want to get an incomplete .
Avalon Hill games were originally made by Hasbro. Then bought the Wizards games online.
If you go to http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/ ...
On the main page, there seems to be many versions of software, but click on the icon, "Games" and there are WW2 games, and other military games.
They may not be old, just like your father played, but the updated versions, or updated graphics. I do not know, but you can also email and ask Wizards.
And then there's always ebay ....
Then Dad got you to think such a thoughtful gift for you!
The best place to find the initial information is boardgamegeek.com.
They have all the Avalon Hill games.
