A ship named Novella - The adventure of self publishing Anyone who has written anything knows how difficult it is to find a publisher for his work, especially without an agent. Finding a publisher is a difficult task to find one for a novel is even more difficult.
Most publishers will not touch a novel because novels are too short to justify the cost of printing. So what is the author of a novel do? A council has been to make the story more. This is easier said than done.
Andrew Zornoza wrote a beautiful meditation on the novel:
The novel is the freest forms, because he chose himself. The author does not try to write a novel. The story says: I will end here, I'm that way, now go find a publisher ...
Exactly!
Thus, after swallowing that reality, I decided to take the lead (or strawberry / wheel) and become the captain of my ship. Prepare for extreme waves!
Self-publishing can certainly be a long scary process. But we are not alone, self-publishing is certainly a sign of the times. And fortunately, today there are several options. Take POD (Print-on-demand), for example. I just understand that there are many POD publishers years. Some of these POD publishers are highly recommended by their users, others have a reputation scarce.
After doing a little homework to know who is on top, I listed three POD publishers are among those highly recommended:
- IUniverse
- Press the Aventine
- Virtual Bookworm
Of course when going with POD you have any concerns as: the cost to find your own editor, make your own marketing, the reality of libraries brick and mortar are reluctant to lower POD books, and more importantly, understand how the charges system.
Continue to weigh my options.
Another question I have is Beaver's Pond Press. Beaver's Pond Press is a press mentoring offers a ton of services to their authors. This includes proofreading, editing, cover design, training on marketing and other things you need in your toolbox.
I have not made my mind up-Beaver Pond, the initial costs are slightly higher than the POD publishers. Of course, the more money you have, the more options you have.
One writer I spoke with decided to launch his own publishing house. He worked with a small print to get his book published. Then he went to independent bookstores, convince them to stock his book. This author has worked the butt of his departure and has sold over 16,000 copies. Good for him!
Another option is to buy and register your ISBN and sell your book yourself on Amazon.com or another method of creation through the Internet. While ocean waves roll, I take the bar to set the rudder during preparation for this journey called self-publishing. My bow move forward in a ship called Novella.
I know ... I know that the captain and the helmsman have two different positions. So perhaps I should say captains, choose your coxswains! But when choosing, remember that the captain is one who goes down with the ship ...
