Why Axis and Allies terms used to describe the opposing sides? Does anyone know why the Allies term has been used to designate the United States, Great Britain, and the Soviets during the Second World War?
Similarly, why the Axis term?
I understand the meaning of the word axis and allies, but why those names chosen? They could just as easily been called the Alliance allies.
If anyone knows the answer, do you know who invented the term, and in what year the conditions were first used.
Well, I'm sure they used the name because the Allies was the same name used in the First World War and with the exception of Italy and Japan did not fight on our side this time it kept the Allies.
They continue to use the term today.
Now, since the axis is I can only imagine here, is an axis of three and the three countries at war with the Allies, Germany, Italy and Japan. Unlike when most countries on the German side the First World War were right next to be called the central government in the First World War, but I can only think that because there were three countries that they called its axis.
Thats my best guess, sorry, I have no evidence to support it and I'm not old enough to have lived at the time. I hope this helps some though.
The Allies, as the entire Western world was united and at war against Germany, Italy and Japan were named the "axis" by Winston Churchill, I think. But I do not know why the choice of the name "Axis". Look for Churchill and the Axis on the Internet (and Wikipedia in particular) and you may find the answer.
The axis term was used by Benito Mussolini, in November 1936, when he spoke of a Rome-Berlin axis arising from the treaty of friendship signed between Italy and Germany October 25, 1936. Mussolini said that the two countries form an "axis" around which the other states of Europe look.
Allies term was used by those opposed to the Axis powers to designate they cooperate with each other in the struggle. An alliance requires a formal agreement to exist. Be an ally is a really be a co-belligerent.
The term "axis" is used to describe the tripartite pact known as the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo. The Axe is a symbol of unity between the three major cities of Nazi Germany, fascist Italy and imperial Japan. Axis term may be somewhat related to a group of ancient Rome held by lictors Senate. Thus, the fascist ideologies of these powers is a kind of symbolic of imperial power, represented by Rome.
The term "allies" is a continuation of the expression used in the Great War, when almost the same countries except for Italy and Japan fought the Central Powers, which also led riginally by the Germans and the Austro- Hungarians. It is more of a continuation of the previous term invented the 1914 - 1918 conflict
