You have not found a good site to explain the IBM architecture more, but the RPG programming environment you describe takes advantage of the AS/400 architecture. It has a high level interface machine (used to called TIMI) and the DB2 is implemented in microcode. Thus, the machine makes many assumptions and handles things we have to program in other environments, such as opening and closing files. User profiles and authorities are part of the OS and object authorities are controlled by the operating system. path of the library is also important in programming and is used in the tests, and multiple production versions with much flexibility. If only I could find a site for you, in your interview but do not assume the AS/400 is like any other environments that you may be aware of ....
